Around this time last year (4:10 PM on January 15, 2012 to be precise) I purchased a new television for the “play room” of our home. I didn’t want to spend a fortune as I already had a quality unit in our family room and this new one would mostly be used for my daughter to watch cartoons while eating breakfast. After some cursory research I settled on a Westinghouse Digital LD-4655VX from the local Sam’s Club. It had tinny sound and took a long time to power on, but the picture was decent enough and the price was right.
Fast-forward to October 5, 2012…
It’s really a shame that I have a blog because I haven’t written anything forever. I could at least post the occasional inspirational quote or a silly cat picture like everyone else on the internet, but I’m having trouble channeling my inner Paulo Coelho and Damascus, God rest her feline soul, hasn’t been with us for quite some time (she did nothing silly/entertaining anyway). In the absence of any interesting content I decided to commit some of my 2013 goals to writing and post them in this public, albeit sparsely travelled forum. I’ve heard many times over that writing goals greatly increases the chance for success. We’ll revisit the following this time next year and see if that holds true.
Here’s a quick logo concept for my (memberless) “club” over at strava.com. Yea or nay?
For the last few years I would annually torture myself by requesting a Seven Cylces brochure. When it arrived, I would drool over all the bikes rendered in glossy magnificence inside that I did not, and likely would not, own. Over these same years, I somehow managed to beg, borrow and steal enough happy cabbage to actually buy my Dream Bike, or at least as close to it as I could afford without selling my home and/or truck.
This past weekend, the Renzo Gracie Pittsburgh Academy (RGA) hosted a seminar conducted by Professor Igor Gracie from Renzo Gracie’s martial arts mecca in NYC. Igor, a 3-stripe black belt, is one of the head instructors at Renzo’s main academy and a professional mixed martial artist having competed in Ring of Combat and Strikeforce promotions. Though I have trained under accomplished black belts from the beginning, I was excited by the prospect of learning from a member of jiu jitsu’s first family. It is Gracie Jiu Jitsu afterall.
